The European Master in Migration and Intercultural Relations was launched in 2011 as the first African-European Erasmus Mundus Master Course in Migration Studies jointly run by three African and four European universities, including the University of Nova Gorica. The first intercontinental Erasmus Mundus study programme is devoted to the dynamics of migration processes and globalisation in the 21st Century.

University network

The study programme is designed as a multidisciplinary programme and is jointly offered by European universities comprising the University of Oldenburg in Germany, the University of Nova Gorica in Slovenia, the University of Stavanger in Norway, the University of South Bohemia in the Czech Republic and partner academic institutions in Africa, namely, the Ahfad University for Women in Omdurman, Sudan, as well as Makerere University and Mbarara University of Science & Technology, both in Uganda.

Programme outline

The two-year study programme examines migration through an intercultural lens and encourages students to develop individual focuses in gender, development, representation, and education to reflect the specifics of the geographical area researched. Students spend their first year studying at two host universities (University of Oldenburg, University of Stavanger), and move to any one of the partner universities in the second year.
