The Tartini String Quartet ranks among the best chamber ensembles on the Slovene chamber music scene. It has performed all the standard repertoire for string quartet and a lot of quartet music from Slovene composers. Members of the quartet hold concerts in Slovenia in abroad.

In 1983 the leaders of the four string sections of the Slovene Philharmonic Orchestra decided to establish a string quartet. In 1990 they adopted the name of famous Piran virtuoso violinist Guisseppe Tartini. Nowadays the quartet is composed of Miran Kolbl (1st violin), who replaced Darko Linarić and Črtomir Šiškovič, Romeo Drucker (2nd violin), Aleksandar Milošev (viola) and Miloš Mlejnik (violoncello).

Programme

The Tartini String Quartet prepares the concert series Evenings of Chamber Music in Ljubljana. Within the three year (2005–2007) cycle, the quartet performed all the quartets of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven. The quartet complements its standard concert programme with the opus of lesser-known composers, and performs string quartets by Slovene composers. Its 6 CDs include works by Dvorak, Ravel, Mozart, Schubert, Chausson and others.

The members of the quartet have collaborated with Slovene and international artists such as Irena Grafenauer, Mate Bekavac, Lovro Pogorelić, Gauthier Capuçon, Maria Graf, Radovan Vlatković, Gary Karr and others.

The Tartini String Quartet has received the Prešeren Award for its contribution to Slovene music.

International performances and recordings

The Tartini String Quartet has performed on the concert stages of important musical centres such as Barcelona, Bratislava, Buenos Aires, Geneva, Munich, Paris, Salzburg, Torino, Venice, and Vienna and has made recordings for Radio-Television Slovenia (RTV Slovenia), TV Suisse Romande, RAI Italia, ORF Austria, RTV Spain and HRT Croatia. The quartet has released eight full-length CDs and has also made recordings for many radio and television stations in Slovenia and abroad.
