In 2002 twelve Koroška municipalities signed agreement to constitute one Koroška Regional Museum that merged Koroška Regional Museum Slovenj Gradec and the Koroška Museum, Ravne na Koroškem and all museums' units and sites. Management of the museum moved to administrative building of The Ravne Steelworks in the year 2003.
