Abstract

SCCA-Ljubljana is a member of the International Contemporary Art Network (ICAN), the European Forum for the Arts and Heritage (EFAH), the International Association of Curators of Contemporary Art (IKT) and the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation (ALF), as well as the Asociacija, Association of Arts and Culture NGOs and Freelancers of Ljubljana.

Building on its rich experience and contacts in both western and eastern countries, SCCA-Ljubljana’s objective is to produce, stimulate and mediate innovative artistic and interpretative practices and to encourage international links between them. It provides participants and users of contemporary art (artists, curators, theorists, critics, audiences) with the knowledge, tools and skills necessary for optimal operation within the art system. By establishing a support system and co-operating with numerous NGOs, SCCA-Ljubljana places artistic practices within a social framework. Programme collaborators and participants come from widely differing sectors and professions, ranging from humanity and social studies, visual anthropology and cultural studies to art history, sociology of culture, philosophy and visual and media arts. SCCA-Ljubljana's activities are divided into the following three areas: (i) Projects - Studio 6, No Nails, No Pedestals, Internet Portfolio, Videodokument, Videospotting, Platforma SCCA, Exhibitions, Research; (ii) School - World of Art: School for Contemporary Arts, Workshops, Library, Videotheque; and (iii) Services - Artservis.org, Evrokultura, Cultural Contact Point Slovenia, ArtsLink.

SCCA-Ljubljana offers information and co-ordination services in respect of various competitions for artists (eg CEC Artslink) and for cultural organisations. In 2001 SCCA-Ljubljana was appointed by the Ministry of Culture to run Cultural Contact Point Slovenia, offering information and administering applications for EU funding schemes such as the Culture 2007 (formerly Culture 2000) programme.

All of SCCA's service activities complement each other, representing a comprehensive information and advisory support system for arts and culture. The main characteristic of all its programmes is open and free access for all users operating in Slovenia and worldwide in the field of arts and culture.
